Reversing the buying approach
My dad’s system uses a completely different approach, reduces the element of luck needed significantly, and basically reverses the buying process. The system works because there are hundred if not thousands of boats just like you are looking for in your city or town town within 50 miles that would be for sale if the owners were approached in the correct way by a potential buyer. There are always far more would be sellers than active sellers. There are many types of sellers who for lots of reasons will never advertise a boat for sale. You will get a description of the different types of sellers and how to approach them in the next chapter.
The system resolves around finding boat owners who have a boat they no longer want or need before they take an initiative to dispose of or sell it. This completely eliminates the competition and puts you in a one on one setting with the seller. Once the offering is make public your competitors are back in the game and your competitive advantage is lost. This technique involves what I call reverse advertising. Reverse advertising is basically a vehicle to find these boat owners who have not yet made an attempt to sell or for other reasons would not typically advertise their boat for sale.
You are probably thinking this is a no brainer, why would I need a system to advertise for a boat. Let me assure you it not that simple. 30+ years of experience have developed a technique that works. There are many types of sellers and in order to make this system work to your full advantage you will need to understand who they are.
You are probably thinking you see wanted ads all the time. No doubt they do show up from time to time, however these really are not direct competition to you as these are generally dealers. These ads look like dealers are generally way too broad and pull mostly the WRONG type of sellers. Most individuals who place these ads fail to get the results they are looking for and seldom repeat the attempt unless they have a system approach to the process.
